PTAG at the Fukushima Daiichi Accident International Workshop

PTAG team member Akira Tokuhiro is in Futaba, Fukushima, Japan for the 15-Year Fukushima Daiichi Accident International Workshop, taking place June 27 to 28.

Hosted by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency with Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority and the Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation, the workshop brings together regulators, researchers, operators, and community representatives to examine lessons from the Fukushima Daiichi accident and the ongoing decommissioning effort.

Topics include accident analysis, fuel debris retrieval, regulatory lessons, and the long-term challenge of managing reconstruction and decommissioning within the same complex environment.

These discussions are directly relevant to the realities of major nuclear and capital programs, where technical complexity, regulatory requirements, site constraints, and competing priorities must be managed together.

Akira’s participation reflects PTAG’s commitment to staying engaged in the industry conversations that inform better planning, project controls, and execution across complex capital projects.
